From Dr. Seuss to Pornography Helping Boys and Girls Navigate a Sexually Toxic Environment

Cordelia Anderson, Chair of the National Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Exploitation (U.S.A.) and a board member at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (U.S.A.) will visit Hamilton to speak with area professionals about the impact of pornography on the developing brain and children’s health and to discuss strategies for prevention and action. She will also be the guest speaker at a free event for parents and caregivers speaking on helping kids to be safer on-line and off. WHEN: FREE for Parents - Monday October 25, 2010, 7 to 9 pm For Professionals - Tuesday October 26, 2010, 8:30 am to 3:45 pm WHY: The Community Child Abuse Council will host the professional development symposium and educational event for parents to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month in October. HOW: The parent/caregiver session is free - pre-registration is required. Registration for the full day session for professionals is open at $75 per person. It provides comprehensive assessment and specialized treatment for child and youth victims of sexual abuse and for children with sexual behaviour problems, as well as child abuse education and prevention programs. WHERE: The Parent/Caregivers’ session will be held in the auditorium of the Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton (26 Arrowsmith Road, Hamilton). The event for professionals will be held at Liuna Station (360 James Street North, Hamilton).
